Is there another Democrat in the wings?

This seems to be the season of political theater. On the one hand, we have the GOP, (representing comedy), which has a whole slew of potential candidates for the presidency in 2012, many of whom are buffoons. One the other hand, we have the Democratic Party, (representing tragedy), many of whom are buffoons, with only one apparent candidate, who was not born to govern.

And people wonder why I supported Ralph Nader.

There is no good choice here. As a voter, I feel like I am standing on one of the top floors of the World Trade Center on 9/11, or perhaps on the Titanic. Jump or burn? Swim or have a brandy with JJ Astor?

I have been to two picnics, a rodeo, one hundred and seventy-one Grateful Dead concerts, some of the more highly recommended whorehouses in Manilla, Kobe, and New Orleans and I have never felt as thoroughly screwed as I do right now.

There is no doubt in my mind that the President's heart is (more or less) in the right place. It is pretty clear that having ones heart in the right place is not a qualification. The party probably killed Cock Robin when it didn't support the best political operative that it owns last time around, opting instead to make her Secretary of State. (I can't warm to her either, but she does know how to drive, metaphorically and politically speaking....).

Right now, my best guess is that the Dem's will lose the White House in 2012, (in the event that the Mayans were incorrect), but will retain the Senate, if for no other reason than the GOP will keep talking right up to the election, and possibly make some gains in the House as well. I doubt that the House swings back, due to the Pelosi factor). As it is highly unlikely that the House of Representatives will actually do anything in the interim, they may be able to avoid taking heat for the things that they have done, while blaming others for the things they haven't done.

In any event, it is a recipe for shit soup.

The Democrats really need another candidate, a dark horse if you will, but I have no idea of who it might be.

If I had to pick from among the turds running today, it would be Jon Huntsman backed by Ron Paul. Huntsman has expressed an idea regarding the tax code that is reminiscent of Steve Forbes flat tax idea from the '80's that deserves some discussion. Three brackets, no loopholes or deductions, period. I do not agree with the plan as it stands, but it has the virtues of simplicity and NO EXCEPTIONS. Those will come, I am sure, but they would not be embedded from the outset.

Ron Paul would be a good man to ride herd over the Senate. He makes his own bully pulpit and is a minimalists minimalist. Like I said about the tax thing, I don't agree, but better to tear it down to the foundation and build it new and transparent than to embed favors for the highest bidder. Ron Paul is a good watchdog.

Too bad his son is such an asshole.

That is where my head is today. I need a drink. Then I intend to form a corporation. if you can't beat em, at least apply camouflage.......
