2 wrongs.....

George W Bush is a despot and a scoundrel. He is to statesmanship what the National Enquirer is to journalism. That goes double for his master, Dick Cheney, who is clearly the brains of the outfit. Make no mistake about it, W is a bad President and is detrimental to the citizenry, to the nation as a whole and to the world.

Then there is the US Congress. Frankly, not too much better, but all we have at the moment.

Right now, there is a move afoot in the Senate to severely curtail or revoke the War resolution of 2002, thus limiting the presidents legal authority to act with regards to Iraq or possibly Iran.
As much as I want to see the war rolled back and ended, I am not sure that this is a good idea.

The President has vowed to fight such a move, (George, can you say & spell 'duh'?), and warns that there will be consequences to that action.

What's he gonna do, invade the Capitol building?

George W has run roughshod over the civil liberties of everybody, looked away while the treasury was looted in the name of the war effort, lied to the press and through them to the citizens of the country he purports to lead, but attempting to roll back authority that is granted by the Constitution to the Commander-in-Chief is just as detrimental to all of us in the long run.

The 2002 resolution and authorization was predicated on fabrications, bad information and a desire on the part of a few to tuck a quick victory under their electoral belts, but it was approved by the Congress, including I might add, not just a few Democrats, (some of whom are running for other offices right now, and attempting to dance around that fact). Bush and Cheney need to be dealt with, the war situation needs to be resolved, but it won't happen with a quck legislative gotcha, and those who support it are doing future generations a disservice. This takes some tough oversite, the kind promised by the party on the left prior to last fall's elections. And that is a lot more than a non-binding resolution. Truth is, law or no law, that war will continue until the C-in-C pulls the troops out, and that most likely, will not be George W. This is the time to expose the GOP juggernaut for what it is, to throw a little daylight onto the situation and let those of us who vote decide for ourselves. That approach will give much credence to the party on the left, and some moral authority to attack other issues that really need some attention.

While I am on this soapbox, how about that Joe Lieberman? Threatening to join the GOP if the Senate appears ready to move on the curtailment (in any form) of the Iraqi war. That asshole! He simply can't take the high road here, vote his conscience, (whatever that might be), and let the chips fall where they may. He is a detriment to the party, (though he is not really a member), and ought to be shown the door. There are enough GOP senators vulnerable in '08 to make up for his lost vote. He wants out, let him out. Give him all the perq's due a Senator and nothing else. He might shut up when his calls go unanswered and the network news people want no more from him than to know what it is like to be a shithead.

Today's tune has been called "the worst record of all time", and is therefore dedicated to the worst President, and (possibly) the least classy Senator of this century.

Try not to puke while it is playing, (although laughing aloud is permitted).

Stay focused.

"Non-binding resolution." WTF is that? It doesn't mean anything, it's completely toothless. So they go from the weakest strategy directly to overkill. I know plenty of average Americans want the war over, but our spineless representatives are frightened to represent. I tell you, I'm starting to smell a revolution cooking. I hope it doesn't happen that way but some of the ingredients are already simmering. I wouldn't be surprised if our commander in chief ends up fragged one of these days.

Funny how saying that if your party commits treason, leaving them isn't an act of conscience.

I see see a whole bunch a brave, conscience being acted upon by the party of NO convictions OR ideas.. Let's see the spineless dems act on something.. stand for something.. DO something.. OFFER SOMETHING other than cowardly, pitful posturing..

Yeah right.

No, that isn't funny, and, furthermore, it wasn't said here until you introduced it. Stick to the point, will ya?

I believe that I wrote nothing to diss Mr. Lieberman's stance, I wrote to suggest that his grandstanding manner was detrimental to whatever party he was clinging to at the moment. I stand by that, it is political whoring of the sleaziest kind. His tactics are not unknown, and not completely unconscionable, (we are talking politics here), but the very amateurish manner that he wields this club is embarassing.

You are right, to this point, the dem's haven't impressed me a whole lot, but in candid retrospection, all that the party on the right has that they do not is the credentials of having bilked the treasury to their own enrichment and the not-so-subtle twisting of the Constitution and the court decisions that have followed to allow them to do, in many cases, as they damn well please.

Thanks for stopping by!

While I'm disgusted by the weakness the democrat politicians are showing, it isn't quite as bad as the active dastardliness and chickenhawking the republicans have been doing.

Your anonymous sounds less coherent than usual, E_R. (Stay out of the Presidential liquor cabinet if you're going to be trolling blogs, Georgie. It makes you sound stupid.)

Treasury bilking was an artform perfected by the Dems.... The SS trust fund emptying alone, on their watch, stands unequaled and we're all still paying for that. Using that money (which if left alone would have SS in fine shape)to keep buying their re-elections (and filter via pork into their private pockets)makes the politicking of public money by the Reps look like nothing. And let's not forget the liberalization of the constitution. I guess it's OK when the thieving/unconstitutional party's politics are closer to your own.

I'm not defending crooked behavior by the Reps. I just react to this hypocritical blustering. Like corupt politicians are a new thing and as if the Dems will be any better.

I still wanna know why Jefferson of LA is still in office, LET ALONE sitting on important committees.

p.s. The market is starting to realize what the loony-left congress is going to do to this country.. Dow down 400 today..

Amateurish club waving ? Are you serious ?

I'm curious how you'd label a non-binding resolution undermining an administration during a time of war..

The Dems are going to see this cheap-shot earned majority blow up in their face.

Oh.. and Jefferson is still on committees because Nancy and the gang have foil-wrapped money too.. lots of it. If he goes down, he's taking them with him.

All good things must come to an end, and Congress has nothing to do with it. Would you rather the Dow skyrocket for years and then spectacularly drop 3000 points in one day? Small increases are accompanied by small decreases, and large increases are accompanied by large decreases. This is normal.

One final thought, then we will go. Think of Mr Jefferson of Louisiana in any light that you wish, (I think he is a scumball and a dumbass---a scumball for what he did and a dumbass for doing it so badly), but he is still in the Congress because there is not yet any legal justification for him to be removed. He has not been convicted of anything, (yet). As for Ms Pelosi's involvement, she is on record as asking him to relinquish his committee positions and to resign. He chose not too, so the party stripped him of his committee posts---all that they could do.

let us not forget that this mess started in 2005, under the GOP leadership in the Congress. They didn't do a lot either, probably for the same reasons that the Dem's didn't--no legal justification. And why did George W order the contents of the investigation sealed? (Note: George is not a Democrat). When/if the man is indicted by the Justice Dept, (still in GOP hands by the way...), and convicted, I am sure that his lease on a capitol office will run out rather quickly...

Thanks again for stopping by.
