The voices that we hear are outrage that such a thing could happen, (looking for someone to blame, a well known diversionary tactic); serious doubt as to the reliability of what we are seeing, (they may have a point, but the issue with this line of reasoning is that the people who question the credibility of this stuff are, in many cases, the people who sell us this stuff to begin with...), and a general sense that this will simply mean that we will simply have to redouble our efforts in the region.
I would like to ask a rhetorical question for all who read this. Why is the US in Afghanistan at all? (I have an answer, based in what I was told by a "high ranking government official"). But I want to know what everyone else here thinks.

I don't think either of us, or anybody knows what we expect when we "win" in Afghanistan. I don't want you or anybody to get the wrong idea, I support both the troops and the idea that our nation is justified in being there.

Most of the country formed an impression of what our mission was and we went with that. And we got sidetracked.
(For the sake of not making the same mistake, no fingers will be pointed).
Iraq was a big sidetrack. Not a damned thing to do with the job at hand but it sure was fun and it may or may not have made for good electoral politics.
What we did do was create a HUGE haystack and then proceed to hide the needle somewhere on the same continent as the aforementioned haystack and now we are spending more money than has even been considered for Obamacare and nobody bats an eye except to bitch about how we are giving away the store when we say out loud that we are gonna wind it down.
To be honest, they have a point. No getting around it, but like I pontificated a few sentences back, nobody knows what a win will be, (I am sure it will not be Dairy Queen's and 7-11's every mile or so throughout Kabul, Kandahar and Mazar-e-Sharif, so what the hell.
This is a war, but it is one that will be won with limited military force. What need's to be done, right now, is to step up intelligence with the means that we have, which means disarming the Predator fleet and looking for the enemy thay we can identify, going for the kills that we can get, where we can get them, (that means Pakistan as well), and pulling our vulnerable assets out. Everything possible to nab Osama should be done, and if we have to swallow some collateral damage in the process, then so be it. Target the madrassa's, the known terror camps and anything that moves after dark. If the FBI is so damned good at finding who is posting a Lady GaGa song on the internet without paying royalties, tell them they will get a free weekend in Vegas if they can find whoever sends that shit to al Jazeerra.
