Who's Next ?

At this point in time, you won't find too many people of any political stripe who would seriously debate you (and stay on topic) on the issue of "Barack Obama will be a One-Term President". A lot of folks, (thoughtfully), hope that it is true. A lot, (equally thoughtfully), hope that it isn't, and a lot hope that it is for the same reason that mobs gather around a street-fight and yell for whoever is on top at the moment.

Truth is, he might be. Right now, he can't be called a great leader, although much of that is through no fault of his own. He has a lot on his plate, dealing with situations created over the years by administrations of both parties. Whether or not he is doing what is right or best is almost secondary right now. The Congress, (led by his own party), is very busy exacting political and economic vengeance for every little wrong that they can recall over the past quarter century, and really don't want anyone in the way. The consequences of the attitude of the past administration are making cooperation with the other nations of the world less than easy, (and never, ever, simple). And the people, who nominally put the President into office, appear to have done it for a lot of reasons that were far from what our founders envisioned. (The phrase "lesser of several evils" comes to mind here).

So, what's gonna happen next?

Just for the sake of argument, let's say that Obama is a foregone loser. Just for grins, let's say he doesn't even run again. (As an aside here, there is an article in the London Telegraph that ruminates on this very subject). Who will step up, (or more accurately, fall over themselves to get to the plate...)?
Any guesses?
And more importantly, are any of them worth it?
Ideas and comments solicited and welcome here.

Normally, this is a question I'd jump on... but there are too many inter-related, ongoing variables, and scenarios that have to play out.

The possible futures range from complete economic collapse.. civil unrest to the point that Obe declares (takes advantage of) an emergency and declares martial law and suspends elections... OR the thrashing this Novemeber is so severe that any candidate resembling Progressive will be rendered politically dead... which aint good either, because ultra-empowered Conservatives aren't any better for the country's future than this current band of Marxists who are literally ruling over us, against our will... OR.. on a good extreme; things get better quickly. And even the good scenario has variable results. Will it happen quickly enough to save what's left of the Progressives (I still hold out hope for sane Democrats waiting to get out from under the Obe/Pelosi hammer and restore my father's Democratic party).. or will it even happen in time to get the deficit/debt under control and save us from being 'Cloward-Piven-ed ... or will the timing be as such that the Rebublicans get disproportionate credit ?

We shall see... Right now I'm rounding up some cash to buy a couple pallets of ammo, 'cause the EPA is looking at banning lead bullets (curious timing, hu?).. effectively outlawing firearm ownership. The way this adminsistration sneaks and overlaps it's powers to legislate by regulation, the whole thing will probably happen under the same protective coat they gave the SEC (they aren't bound by Freedom of Information Act). If they can literally take wealth from investors and give it to unions.. banning ammo will be an afterthought.

What scares me most right now, was a thought that entered my head as Obe took the oath. The media seemed to give extra attention to the wonders of our system, that allows for peaceful changes of power... and given the balls of this administration over just 1.5 years.. I don't see them just saying, "oh well, we tried", and be willing to just watch as we roll back all the dictatorial roots they've planted.. if the Conservatives sweep things in November.

In summary.. Depends on what the economy does, and how the November elctions go.. Before those happen, it's too much a gray-area to speculate.

I do not disagree with you too much, but I might plant the seed of a notion that the super-socialists and the uber-conservatives are on the same team, and all the noise that they make and the acrimony that they foster is so much window dressing to cover the real action. Frankly, there is not a lot of difference between Bush and Obama. They play to a different fan base, but the soundtrack is the same. It is not really about money, but it is, if things continue, money will be insignificant and wealth/power will be concentrated in a very small group, one that spans national and cultural borders. I sometimes wonder if we are in a war against "terrorism" because that is a faction that is both uncontrollable and willing to take concrete action against the status quo.

How's that for a conspiracy theory?

Time to sober up.

Well.. as far as conspiracies go, I'd rank it more of a logical likelyhood, than a scoff-able theory.

The last two administrations have done incredible, Constitutional damage; to a document already in tatters.

We the people, and I do me WE the PEOPLE have become like a necessary annoyance to the ruling class. Their grand plans on how the fruits of OUR labors will be dispursed, redistributed and used-up in general; do not take into consideration our best interest or even our desires. When the government literally holds the value of our currency as something to manipuilate to their ends.. and when the governnment controls the biggest, most important facet of the economy (residential real-estate) to the point where they hold 90% of the mortages and have taken away the citizen's equity by granting mortages to anyone with a pulse.. it's a BAD thing. The free-market no-longer matters. If one aspect of it gets too 'free' they can gobble it up and render it irrelevant.

Ponder just those two things... the very money we bust our butts for, and the wealth we try to build in our sacred homes, is no longer subject to our merit (or lack thereof). It's saddening and sickening...

Now throw in what has happened to actual, excess currency that we've managed to accumulate (savings, 401Ks, etc), and it'll make the guy who busted his ass, and played by the rules feel particularly stupid and used.

As I've said before.. I'm glad I'm over 50, have no kids, and can just go hide on my remote property when things get ugly. Ever been to the upper peninsula of Michigan ?
